What is Social Studies?
Social Studies combines many different disciplines including history, culture, geography, economics and government.

Why do I need to know this?
Everything taught in Social Studies applies to your everyday life. The events going on in our world today are a consequence of events from the past. If you ever ask yourself "Why?" when seeing the news then you would benefit from the study Social Studies.

What can I hope to learn?
This class could be renamed "World History Part 2". We will be covering the period of history from 1492 (...Columbus sailing the ocean blue) to the present. We will mainly be focusing on how Europeans and, later, the United States came to dominate the world. This does not mean we will not be looking at other continents, countries and cultures. Along the way we will be studying different government and economic systems as well as how geography, culture and religion help shaped history.
